My wish came true… sort of.
Back when I got my first guitar, I was about 13 years old and music was my only friend. I had 2 (actually 3) wishes: Learn how to play well enough to be in a band and get paid, meet lots of girls (easy if you’re a guitar player), and hear myself playing on the radio, preferably while I am cruising down a highway on a beautiful summer day with the top down and my arm around an equally beautiful girl.
Well, years went by — I played a lot of gigs, met a lot of nice(and not so nice) girls, made a little money along the way. I wrote over one hundred songs, but of course, never heard myself on the radio.
Until one day when I was living in Philly. A local radio station was having a contest for songs for Philadelphia’s Hometown Album. I happened to have just joined a band called Watertite and we submitted a song with a breathy female singer entitled Mainlining. There were 12 tracks on the record and we were track #3. We played a live set at Peaches Records for the release party.
A couple of weeks later, I was parking my friend Tantar’s car down on South Street. It was a beautiful summer day, and as I was about to shut the car off, I heard myself play about 8 notes ON THE RADIO! It was a promo for the album.
